Our Cashmere Story

Deep in the mountains of Ladakh lives a special goat : the pashmina goat. With his stellar curling horns, he's one handsome goat.
High up above at 14,000 feet, the Shepherds of Ladakh, our brave nomads guide their steps through steep Himalayan passes, from cold winters and summers, with a radio for company.
Even in deep winters, the goats with their high tastes (of altitude) need to graze and journey. They breathe the pure mountain air and eat the fresh mountain grass, dewed by mist and rain, roaming freely in their Himalayan kingdom.
Their hair kissed by sunshine, dry air and snow experiences the purest natural conditions on earth. Lucky fellas!
And so they have the softest hair a goat can possibly have.
"Baaaaah he's fine. I wish I had such soft hair.", you hear other goats bleating. But it's a matter of destiny.
When the pashmina goats go to the salon for a hair-cut every summer, their hair is trimmed by our Ladakhi sheperd who is also the official goat barber. This is much like trimming human hair without harming our precious pashmina goat in the least.
In winter they journey into the eternal mountains once again with our beloved Ladakhi Nomads. The hair is then carefully cleaned, combed and made into yarn in a weaver's private home.
The dye-dipper adds beautiful colours to our chosen pure yarn. The intensive and meditative task of hand weaving begins. The music of classic wooden handlooms arrive upon the mountain wind in Kashmir, from the quaint homes of our Artisans, in consistent motion to create our cashmere.
Our cashmere has journeyed from cold Himalayan winters to the gentle hands of our Ladakhi nomads and onto the skilled hands and vintage looms of our Kashmiri weavers, to create a timeless piece.
From the Himalayas to you.
